Mackenzie County
Municipal Development Plan (MDP)
The Municipal Development Plan outlines the County’s vision for growth management. The MDP is an important tool for Council, Administration, landowners, and residents to guide how land is used and where the County grows over time.
The County undertook the MDP update to respond to changing conditions in the County, including significant events related to the economy and the environment. The updated MDP ensures that future plans, land use changes, and developments reflect local opportunities and challenges.
Council adopted the new Municipal Development Plan February 28, 2024.
Mackenzie County
Land Use Bylaw
(LUB)
The Land Use Bylaw is used as a tool to implement the direction outlined in the Municipal Development Plan. The County completed an update to the LUB concurrently with the MDP to save the County time and money, and ensure the vision and policies are aligned between both documents.
The updated LUB was streamlined to remove redundancies, reflect new approaches to land use planning, provide clarity to landowners and developers, and reflect lessons learned since the previous LUB was approved in 2017.
Council adopted the new Land Use Bylaw September 23, 2024.
Fort Vermilion
Area Redevelopment Plan (ARP)
Responding to the April 2020 floods requires both an immediate disaster approach and a long term planning approach for future resiliency against these types of events in the future. A new Area Redevelopment Plan will help to reimagine the future for Fort Vermilion’s downtown and include smart land use management and flood resiliency responses.
The ARP will provide a framework to ensure that Fort Vermilion retains and adds services over the next 20 years and establishes a community vision for a revitalized Peace River waterfront and town centre.
